God’s Angels Watching You

When I bow down in humble prayer,
To give requests for you,
I’ll pray protection for your life,
God’s angels watching you.

When I ask God to meet your needs,
As faith says He will do,
God’s messengers will minister,
They’re angels watching you.

When you go out to do your work,
Your chores or daily tasks,
An angel's flying by your side,
If you will only ask.

For angels are a gift from God,
And they will not neglect,
To keep us from the path of harm,
To guide us and protect.

For long ago in Bethlehem,
We call it Christmas time,
Angels told the birth of Christ,
A virgin birth divine.

Then when my Lord was crucified,
And in the tomb He laid,
Three days later angels came,
To roll the stone away.

When Paul and Silas were in jail,
While singing songs of praise,
An angel came to them at night,
And helped them to escape.

For Hebrews states within God’s Word,
When strangers do appear,
You may be entertaining too,
An angel unaware.

For angels fight on our behalf,
When we engage in praise,
So praise the Lord in everything,
And angels come your way.

For angels are our ministers,
They’re sent from God above,
To guard us in our daily walk,
And show us God is love.

Take comfort in Psalm 91,
In everything you do,
For God will give His angels charge,
They’re watching over you.

Now if you’re walking down the street,
Or in your truck or car,
And if you’re in your bed asleep,
An angel’s never far.

For if you live your life in faith,
As we’re commanded to,
Then you will be surrounded by,
God’s angels watching you.

Isaiah 55:8-9

For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are My ways higher than your ways,

and My thoughts than your thoughts.

 

Before I looked on the front page of our blog today to see the daily scripture that was posted in the sidebar, I had already planned to use Curtis' cloud picture for this article.  I didn't expect to see another cloud picture attached to Isaiah 55:8 on the daily scripture, but I realized again, that God is in control and that it was the scripture that the Lord wanted me to use for today's blog post.  God is always one step ahead of us.  To be honest, He's usually ten or twenty steps ahead of us.  And for that, I am very grateful.  Here is the Bible Verse that was posted on 7/20/2017 (it changes everyday): 

I'm thankful that we serve a Heavenly Father whose thoughts and ways are higher than ours.  Sometimes, in our carnal human life, we can set the bar rather low.  We expect less for ourselves than God expects.  We can get to a point in our lives, especially as we get older, where we think that good things aren't in store for us anymore.  Because life has dealt us some tiresome blows, we find ourselves driving into an emotional ditch.  We reach for mediocrity and God wants nothing less than the best for our lives.  However, we may find it difficult to believe that God wants the best for us when we're in a frustrating situation, or we're physically sick, or emotionally drained.  We wonder where the Lord is when we're fighting evil, struggling on the job or dealing with financial worries.  We pray and it seems that the answer never arrives.  Still, God is always in control.  

.....His ways are higher than our ways.

Just like these Aloe Vera plants have taken root and are growing, God wants us "take root" and grow spiritually.  One way that we grow in our Christian walk is the practice of faith.  Sometimes the skies look dark and gloomy and sometimes it seems that the answer will never come, but we must believe that our blue sky will soon show up.  We must live a life of spiritual expectancy, always expecting God's best for our life.

#FAITH

We must learn to trust God in the storms of life. 

Faith is not easy, but it's absolutely necessary to the Christian walk.  If we never learn to trust in God, then we will never find peace, no matter the situation.  Trusting God means that we get up every morning and thank God that we woke up today and then thank Him for His many blessings.  We pray unto the Lord and ask Him to guide our thoughts, our work, our steps and our words.  We ask the Lord to give us wisdom and discernment.  We pray for His divine protection.  We ask Him for healing and help in every trying matter.  We ask him to deliver us from the hand of the enemy.  ....and then we trust Him.  We trust Him completely.  Is it easy? Of course, it's not easy.  But, it's necessary.  If we want peace, we must have faith and trust in the Lord.

The picture above of the church surrounded by the beautiful blue sky is a perfect way to explain "God's ways".  When we have faith and trust in God, we can know that no matter the storm, no matter how much rain is falling down, that a blue sky is just around the corner.  This is how it feels to trust God.  You don't "spiritually" see the dark, gloomy skies.  You "spiritually" see the sky of blue.  It's called faith.  Faith and trust.  

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Every single day that we wake up is another opportunity to strengthen our faith and deepen our trust.  The Lord knows that living in this sinful, selfish world is not easy.  He already knows and understands the challenges that we face every minute of every day.  But, His promises are true.  His ways are perfect.  And, He loves us more than anyone could ever love us.  As our Father, He is watching us when we think that He's nowhere around.  You may think that He's a million miles away; and, in reality, He's standing next to you, helping you every step of the way......if you will trust Him and allow Him to help you.  The choice is ours.  We can allow God to help us or we can push Him away with doubt and unbelief.  God loves us enough to not force us to choose His best for us.  We're neither puppets nor robots.  We do have a choice.  However, life will teach us that faith and trust helps to solve our problems, not doubt and unbelief.  

Please don't let another minute go by without turning your life or your circumstance over to God in prayer.   

The Lord is just as close as the next prayer that you pray.  

God's way is always better.

 

Psalm 13:6

I will sing unto the Lord, because He hath dealt bountifully with me.

God and the Cloud

Exodus 13:17-22

17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:

18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.

20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.

21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

 

Thankfully, we can count on God’s leadership. Not only does he make a way. He also shows us the way.
And, that way can be surprising.

When “Pharaoh let the people go” in Exodus 13:17, the scripture tells us that God “led them” in the direction they should go.  However, He led them home not by the shortest route, He led them by the safest route.  He chose the longer route “by way of the wilderness” rather than “the way of the Philistines” for a kind and generous reason.

God is not only considerate of his children, He knows us well.  Sometimes, when the tired and weary meet enough resistance, they change their mind and return to a former misery.  This was the case with the recently freed Hebrews.  God was concerned that “when they see war, they may change their mind and return to Egypt.”  The way of the Philistines, while a shorter route, meant a battle the Hebrews were not prepared to face.  The way of the wilderness, while longer, was the safest route and the one that their caring God chose.

His leadership was unmistakable. Its evidence was something that everyone could see; and, was understandable to all.   God chose to be present in a cloud, a garden-variety everyday cloud.

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud to lead them in the way…..He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day….from before the people.” Exodus 13:21, 22.

Thankfully, we can count on God’s leadership. Not only does he make a way, he also shows us the way.

Acts 1: 8 - 11

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven.

We pray that you and your family, your friends and neighbors experience abundant blessings as we celebrate the glorious beauty of Easter Sunday, giving praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Friend and soon coming King.   We pray that you have experienced the saving power of His work on the cross, clinging to the eternal hope of salvation, the promises of His Word and the power of His Holy Name.

Faith, Frustration & Creativity

There are times when the world will throw us a curveball. 

Sometimes, that light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train.    

You thought that your ship had come in, but now it’s in dry dock.  

Once again, your dreams, hard work and big ideas are crushed like flies underneath a flyswatter.     

….and then the frustration begins…..and sometimes…..you realize, just one more time, that life is hard.    

Sometimes….. you’re just done. 

Stick a fork in it, you’re done.  

Sometimes, it seems that every idea, every creative burst of energy, every God-given talent is trampled by a force of negativity that refuses your forward movement, productivity or success. 

There are times when it seems that every act of generosity is crushed with a spirit of ungratefulness.  The more you give and the more you do, the more they ignore it, misuse it or disrespect it.   

There are days when no matter how hard you try, how much you push or how much you dream, you finally wake up to the nightmare of reality.  It isn’t working.  It can’t work.  Consequently, someone is always glad to tell you why it won’t work.  No matter what the motivational gurus say, the “no” is always more powerful than the “yes”. 

You may ask, “Why?”  Because the “no” has the power to stop you in your tracks. One more “no” can shut you down and render you helpless, discouraged and defeated.  The next “no” can be the reason you quit.  When you give into the power of “no”, your creative energy and bright ideas are drained from you like a Hollywood vampire drains his victims of their blood.  

 

 

For every blessing, for every good thought, for every possibility, there is a little demon hiding around the corner, excitedly awaiting to exchange blessing for curse, faith for fear and success for failure.  The demon is always there.  You can’t miss him. 

Just have a good idea and he shows up.  Produce a beautiful piece of work and watch what happens.  Do something nice for someone and here he comes, ready to shatter like glass that moment of gratitude or opportunity.  It’s like clockwork.  It’s a 24/7 struggle.   

You’re now in survival mode; however, your dreams are more than just dreams.  Your creativity is more than just creativity.  It is God’s way of demonstrating the fact that we are created in His image, in His likeness.  If we are creative, it’s because of Him.  If we have good ideas, it’s because of Him. 

If we demonstrate productivity and accomplishment, it’s because of Him.  If we have talent, it’s because of Him.  God gave us the brain power to figure things out and create.  God and creation go hand in hand.  God tells us in the very first chapter of the Bible.      

Genesis 1: 26 - 27 

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 

27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.   

The Old Testament was translated from Hebrew.  To further understand the idea of creation and creativity, we need to look at the original Hebrew word for “create”.  The Hebrew word is Bara’.     

Definition 

1. to create, shape, form
1. (Qal) to shape, fashion, create (always with God as subject)
1. of heaven and earth
2. of individual man
3. of new conditions and circumstances
4. of transformations
2. (Niphal) to be created
1. of heaven and earth
2. of birth
3. of something new

2. to be fat
1. (Hiphil) to make yourselves fat 

So, as you can see, the idea of creation and creativity comes directly from God.  And, since evil opposes everything that is God, evil will obviously oppose your positive, God-given creativity.  Evil opposes your talents and generosity of spirit. 

Evil opposes everything that is holy and sacred to God.    

Therefore, it is important to saturate our spirits with the Word of God.  The negativity and foolishness of this world is sometimes more than we can handle, especially if it shows up in more than one serving per day. 

The spirit of this world wants us to fail.  God wants us to prevail.   

Our blessings come from God, but the world wants to strip us of our gratitude.  The world does not offer salvation. Jesus Christ gives us the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal life.  The world cannot destroy the promises of God.  The world can hinder, persecute and disrespect you, but the world cannot steal your salvation, your joy, or even your talents and creativity.   

The world can certainly make it much more difficult to prosper and progress.  The world can certainly throw stumbling blocks in your path, but the onslaught of worldly difficulties cannot take away the spirit of creativity that God has given to you.  The world can discourage you and slow you down, but it cannot take away that which is ordained by God.    

The world can tell you “no”; but in the midst of rejection, God will make a way when there seems to be no way.  He is God.  Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent.  He was God yesterday and He will be God tomorrow. 

The power of “no” will never be more powerful than the hand of God. 

As long as we’re serving God, we can trust Him to lead us in the right direction.  We can trust Him to use our talents and creativity to bring glory and honor to Him and His Word. 

At the same time, we can also trust God to open doors that need to be opened and close doors that need to be closed.  My grandmother used to tell me, “Sometimes our disappointments are God’s appointments.”  Sometimes, and this may be difficult for us to digest, but a “no” may be exactly what we need.  Why?  Because God sees further down the road; consequently, He has better plans for us. 

God is omniscient.  He sees what we cannot see.  

 

Therefore, trust God.  Trust Him with your talents, ideas and creativity.  Always measure and question your ideas to see if they are consistent with the Word of God.  Use your talents to bring glory to God.  Stay focused.  Keep the faith.  Pray continually.  God will make a way when there seems to be no way to move forward or even succeed.   

Your creativity is a gift from our Creator, God. 

Every morning, God gives us new artwork in the sky, music from bird song; and, depending upon our location, the fragrance of pine trees, the color of bluebonnets or the sound of a babbling brook.  Each day, we may experience the chill of mountain air, a sunset in the desert or the salty mist of an ocean breeze.  We may experience the color of wheat, a fresh fallen snow, a shower of rain or a brilliant full moon.  God's handiwork of creation is all around us and in us.

Give thanks for His many blessings and trust in His divine guidance. 

Proverbs 3:5-6  

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths.

A Harvest of Blessings

We were driving down a long country road with beautiful cotton fields, green pastures, ponds, pine trees, cattle and their buddies, the Cattle Egrets.  The clouds were particularly fascinating over the perfect rows of planted cotton.  Gazing at the vibrant blue skies and green fields becomes an important teaching experience, especially when you think about the physical and spiritual aspects of fields and farms.  

The Bible constantly refers to planting and harvesting; sowing and reaping.  Whenever I see a cotton or wheat field, I am reminded of verses in the Bible about sowing and reaping, such as:  

Galatians 6: 7 - 9

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

These three verses in Galatians are a reminder to everyone of the importance of love, generosity, kindness, patience and honesty.  It is important to love people, to treat them with generosity and kindness, to be patient with those who have different opinions and to be honest in our business transactions.  It is important to lead a life of holiness before God.  

We must not sow to the flesh for the sake of greed, power or material gain.  Sowing the seeds of honesty, generosity and holiness will reap a harvest of blessings.  Love, kindness and patience will influence friends and confuse an enemy.  Corruption and dishonesty, hate and selfishness will result in a spiritual crop failure.  

2 Corinthians 9:6

⁶ But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Whenever I see crops harvested in the fall, at times I am reminded of a spiritual harvest of souls.   The Bible reminds us that their are lost souls who need to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, who need to know the peace of forgiveness and the freedom from sin.  Planting the seeds of the Gospel will yield changed people, transformed through the redemptive power of God's unconditional love.

God's grace is sufficient for every care and every burden that we may bear.  May we be continually reminded of the love of God and His desire for those who are lost and hurting to find the serenity of salvation.  May we find faith and hope in the promises of God's Word.  

Luke 10: 1 - 12 

1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He himself would come.

² Therefore said He unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest.

³ Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

⁴ Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

⁵ And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

⁶ And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

⁸ And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

Celebrating Two Years of Lightkeeper's Journal - We Give Praise to God!

Today, we celebrate two years as Lightkeeper's Journal.  We want to thank everyone who has visited our blog and photo gallery.  May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. We hope our writing journal and nature photos have, at some point, brightened your day. Instead of writing a long article regarding our two-year celebration, we want to give praise to the Lord for His many blessings.  We offer thanksgiving to God through sharing an inspirational chapter in the Old Testament Book of Psalms.

 

Today, things look a little more bleak in this nation than they did two years ago.  A lot of hard-working folks have lost their jobs and politicians are destroying this country through destructive legislation.  Financial corruption and substance abuse are at an all-time high.  The health care industry seems to be falling apart.  Immorality, unethical behavior and promiscuity have unfortunately increased.  Consequently, many people are very concerned; and even worried, about the future.  However, the Bible gives us hope and we share that hope with you in Psalm 118. 

 

Many people log onto our website to read our poems and it makes our heart leap with joy, having faith that we have offered encouragement in a tough old world.  We love poetry. The most poetic book of the Bible is the Book of Psalms and we want to share with you a beautiful Psalm to encourage, inspire and dispel the fear that the world inflicts on people today. 

The Lord is good; He is faithful and His truth endures.

 

Blessings to you on this beautiful day!  

Psalm 118

O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: because His mercy endureth for ever.

² Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

³ Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

⁴ Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

⁵ I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.

Rainbow Stew

Yesterday, we were driving to the county dumpster to take our garbage (sounds more sophisticated than trash), and on the way to the dumpster, we saw the most beautiful rainbow over a cow pasture.  It was a magnificent reminder of the promises of God.

 

 

It has been constantly raining for close to two months now.  As we looked at the rainbow, I was overwhelmed with the thought that sometimes, along the dimly lit path of life, in the midst of storms, God will send us a reminder of His promises. Even on the way to do something that is not necessarily fun or pleasurable (such as going to a dumpster), God will, in a subtle way, let us know He's near.  

 

We don't always see the rainbows during good times.  We don't always see the rainbows when money is flowing freely or we are healthy as a horse.  We don't always see the rainbows when the boss gives us a promotion or the business makes a profit.  When things are going great, we sometimes miss the rainbows.  

 

But sometimes, in the midst of a cloud of discouragement or a flood of despair, God will show us a rainbow.  Why the rainbow?   The rainbow is a symbol of God's promise to Noah, that He would never again destroy the earth with a flood.  Today, the rainbow continues to be a symbol of God's promises.  

 

As we were on the way to the dumpster, we saw the tractor in the above photo that was sitting deserted in a South Georgia field.  It was covered in Kudzu vine.

Sometimes in life, we feel deserted, lonely, despondent and sad. We may feel like that old tractor, alone and covered up in the problems of life. However, when we meditate upon the promises of God, we remember the rainbow.

 

Noah had to endure forty days and forty nights of rain.   Even though he was in the safety of an ark with him family and animals, he saw complete destruction of the inhabitants of the earth through an epic flood.  In the end, God gave Noah a promise, signified by a mesmerizing and multi-hued rainbow that we still see today after a downpour of rain or frightening thunderstorm. 

 

Genesis 9:16 - And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.  

 

Life's journey is not always easy, but God will never desert us.

 

 During the storm, He gives us peace.

   After the storm, He sends a rainbow.
