Meet Ollie the Owl!
Photography by Norma Beaird (he finally quit spinning)
We were at Ollie's Bargain Outlet in Dublin, Georgia. I was browsing the garden area when I saw him. It was love at first sight! We had the Asparagus Ferns, the Purple Queen and the Creeping Purple Heart, but something was missing. It was Ollie, the perpetually shocked owl. We named him after the store because it just seemed appropriate.
Every once in a while, a person needs a new "Ollie". In the garden of life, we plant according to the moon phases, we water and fertilize the plants, and then we wait for them to grow. We plant some in the shade and plant some in the sun because we follow the rules. The explosion of green on our front porch and surrounding the bannister let us know that we had done it right.
But then... we realize that something is missing. Sometimes, you just have to throw caution to the wind and buy a perpetually shocked owl for your front porch. You need that eclectic factor in the midst of the traditional. Ollie was it. He was right at home in our garden of tradition. We finally got him situated where he stays still and doesn't turn around. Everyone passing by needs to be greeted by Ollie.
So today, my challenge to you is this.... go somewhere and buy an Ollie! Buy that abstract art print for your home. Quit procrastinating and start that new hobby. Try the flavored coffee that you've wanted to try. Put a Pink Flamingo in your front yard. There are times when we need to add a little spice to our life. It doesn't have to be big. It doesn't have to be expensive. But...it does have to put a smile on your face!!
Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
